National Association of School Psychologists Recognizes Presence as an NASP-Approved Provider

, Primary Category: Press Releases

SAN FRANCISCO, February 4, 2016 – Members of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) are required to earn at least 75 credit hours of continuing professional development (CPD) during each member’s 3-year renewal period. However, earning these hours can be expensive as well as very challenging because school psychologists juggle such full schedules of assessments, student sessions, paperwork and IEP meetings. To provide NASP members with free, convenient opportunities to earn CPD credit, PresenceLearning applied for, and was approved by, the NASP-Approved Provider program so that NASP members can attend PresenceLearning live webinars to earn CPD credits at no charge.

After completing a post-webinar quiz and feedback survey, attendees are emailed a certificate that verifies participation. School psychologists receive 1 CPD credit for every hour of professional development. To claim CPD credit for attending a PresenceLearning live webinar, NASP members must submit the following information — which can be found on the PresenceLearning certificate:

  • Name of participant
  • CPD hours
  • Hours of participation
  • Category or type of activity
  • Certification or member number
  • Title or topic of activity
  • Activity sponsor, if applicable
  • Date of activity

“Our goal as a company is to provide students with access to the behavior and mental health services they need, and help address the professional development needs of our own extensive network of clinicians as well as school-based clinicians and education leaders across the country,” said Clay Whitehead, co-founder and co-CEO of PresenceLearning. “Our professional development webinars connect clinicians with leading experts in special education to enrich the attendees’ professional skills and knowledge base.”

The first opportunity for NASP members to earn CPD credits from PresenceLearning is the three-part webinar series called “Success for Every Learner: From At-Risk to Successful,” which will offer a deep dive into school climate and behavior issues . NASP members will earn 1.5 CPD credits for attending each 90-minute webinar. The first webinar is on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 10 AM Pacific Time with Dr. Frances Stetson, one of the nation’s leading consultants on inclusionary practices. Dr. Stetson’s 90-minute webinar “Inclusion Is for Every Learner — Or is It?” will discuss the over-identification of students for special education services and how our nation’s use of inclusion can be improved to better support at-risk students.

The next two webinars in the spring series will feature Dr. Ed Dunkelblau on March 24th and Dr. Ross Greene on May 5th. Dr Dunkelblau, one of the originators of the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) movement, will talk about how improving social emotional skills can help at-risk students achieve. Dr. Greene, a best-selling author, speaker and psychologist who originated the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach for students with serious challenges, will wrap up the series discussing how his CPS approach can help reduce disciplinary issues for students with special needs.
