Upcoming Presence Webinar Helps Special Educators Plan and Design Reading Interventions for Struggling Elementary Students

SAN FRANCISCO, September 20, 2017 – PresenceLearning, the leading telehealth network of live, online special education related service providers, is hosting its second “Blueprints for Success: Interventions That Really Work” webinar to provide special educators with research-based guidance about planning and designing interventions for elementary students struggling with reading. The webinar, titled “Making it Real: RTI and MTSS for Reading and Reading Interventions,” will be led by Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) expert Dr. Jeanne Wanzek on Tuesday, October 26, 2017 at 10 am Pacific time (1 pm Eastern time).

During the webinar, Dr. Wanzek will provide special educators with guidance on interventions that help students with disabilities acquire literacy skills early in their academic career. By participating in this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Contrast the efficacy of core reading instruction and reading interventions for students with disabilities
  • Identify sustainable organizational approaches to improve results from reading interventions
  • Show ways to intensify reading interventions including content and instructional delivery elements
  • Work with other members of inter-professional teams to apply these principles to specific student cases

The “Blueprints for Success: Interventions That Really Work” series highlights evidence-based behavioral management, reading intervention, and differentiated instruction strategies that, when implemented accurately and thoroughly, are proven to help students in need. All of the live webinars provide exceptional professional development opportunities for school staff at no charge. Certificates of attendance are issued to attendees to use for professional development documentation.

About Dr. Jeanne Wanzek

Dr. Jeanne Wanzek is the Currey-Ingram Endowed Chair and associate professor in the Department of Special Education at Peabody College. She conducts research examining effective reading instruction and intervention. Her focus is on prevention and remediation for students with reading difficulties and disabilities. Prior to receiving her doctorate, she worked as a special educator and as an elementary teacher. She has a number of publications as well as national and international presentations in the areas of early reading, learning disability, response to intervention, and adolescent reading intervention. Currently, Dr. Wanzek is implementing two federally funded grant projects related to reading intervention with opportunities for graduate students to gain research and practical experience.
