Head of People Operations

PresenceLearning is looking for a talented, experienced Head of People Operations to help our team thrive as we go through a period of dramatic growth. As Head of People Operations, you will build on that foundation to make our company an inspiring place to work as we scale rapidly. You will have a profound impact on every aspect of our organization, shaping recruiting, compliance, compensation, professional development and culture. You are a systems-builder who relishes the challenge of setting up practices that will continue to propel our company when we are multiples of our current size.

Position is at our San Francisco Headquarters


  • Recruit an amazing team
    • Build a full-stack recruiting machine that consistently attracts the best talent across the company
    • Select and manage outside recruiters who deliver results
    • Implement rigorous screening and interviewing practices
  • Make us best-in-class on professional development, compensation, benefits and employee support
    • Create a fair framework for compensation
    • Select and implement an HRIS
    • Craft a performance management process that empowers employees and develops their talents
    • Develop internal tools that help employees understand and optimize their benefits
  • Keep us in compliance with the law
    • Deftly handle difficult HR situations (disputes, terminations, etc.)
    • Maintain appropriate W-2 / 1099 classification
    • Bring employee handbook and other compliance procedures up to standard
    • Update and improve documentation
  • Support the founders in creating an inspiring culture that supports our mission
    • Manage our Office Manager in planning events that support team morale and cohesion
    • Conceive ideas big and small that make our office environment a “best place to work”
    • Keep the mission front-and-center for our employees

Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of HR / People Operations experience in a high-growth environment
  • Deep knowledge of best practices and recent trends in the field
  • Track record of implementing People Operations practices that worked well
  • A “startup person” who is hands-on and can make things happen without a vast support staff
  • A systems builder: thinks about how details and problems will scale and puts repeatable process in place to address them
  • Bachelors degree
