Tennessee School-Based Medicaid Telehealth Services Overview

In 2014, Tennessee passed legislation that ensured Medicaid coverage for telehealth services at School-Based Health Clinics and locations deemed appropriate by Managed Care Organizations. Schools (non-clinics) were not considered a “qualified site” for Medicaid to reimburse for telehealth services. However, all pertinent school based services (speech, OT, behavioral health) were covered. In 2017 Tennessee passed legislation that added schools as originating sites.
