The Story Of Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District (NCLUSD)

Newman-Crows Landing Unified School (NCLUSD) had difficulty recruiting and hiring new speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Alice Solis, the Director of Support Services, implemented PresenceLearning for the 2014-2015 school year to connect students with highly qualified SLPs online. The district initially implemented services with students in grades 6-12, but expanded the services to students in grades 4 and 5. Now approximately 85 students in grades 4-12 are using the services.
Online speech-language therapy has impacted NCLUSD in several ways: The district is able to continue providing high-quality speech services for students Students have met speech-language goals and exited special education/li> The district has increased opportunities to meet student needs, for example the district has been able offer online speech-language therapy services to its Diablo Grande summer school location/li> After such positive results with online speech-language therapy, NLUSD is expanding to use PresenceLearning’s new psychoeducational assessment services beginning in January 2017.

One of our parents had questions about how her child’s speech disabilities were affecting his academic classes. One of our PresenceLearning online speech-language therapists took the initiative to collect feedback from all of the student’s teachers, and provided me with a recommendation. Within a day, I was able to respond to the parent with next steps. This is something you would expect from an on-site therapist, but it’s also the norm with PresenceLearning.
