Lesley Edwards-Gaither MA, CCC-SLP attends the ASHA Convention every year. While she uses the convention to learn about the newest research in her field, as a spouse of an active duty military officer, she also uses the convention as a networking tool. Because of her frequent relocations (eight so far!), Lesley has held many different positions in the speech therapy industry. Now a Lead SLP at PresenceLearning, Lesley provides SLP services to children via telepractice.
As she explains, “I deliver services and perform assessments via an online, custom built platform. I’m several states away from my students but I am licensed in the state where they reside and the state in which I reside. Using my home computer(s), a headset, webcam and high-speed internet connection with plenty of bandwidth, I treat, assess and collaborate with other SLPs, school staff and parents daily.”
The ASHA Convention had 12 sessions on telepractice this year. Read about Lesley’s experience as a telepractice SLP at this year’s convention on the ASHAsphere blog.
