Webinar Explores Benefits of Online Occupational Therapy in Special Education

PresenceLearning’s June 19th webinar discusses a new and innovative approach to the delivery of school-based occupational therapy

SAN FRANCISCO, May 23, 2013 – With the demand for occupational therapy (OT) services growing due to increases in the cases of learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder and autism combined with the rigors of the Common Core implementation, special education administrators are trying – and seeing success with – new service delivery models, including online OT. To help educators learn more about this innovative approach, PresenceLearning, the leader in online speech therapy services for K-12 students, is hosting a free webinar on Wednesday, June 19th at 1PM ET (10 AM PT). To register for the webinar titled, “Online OT-For Real! Real Kids. Real Goals. Real Results,” visit https://pages.presencelearning.com/spedahead12.

During the one hour webinar, Robyn Chu, MOT, OTR/L, and Dr. Rondalyn Whitney, PhD, OT/L, an assistant professor of occupation therapy at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, will share their first-hand experiences with online OT. This webinar will inform special education directors and administrators of the benefits of providing online OT in school settings, as well as teach them how a blended model of online and onsite OT delivery can improve quality of service, outcomes and compliance.

By attending the webinar, participants will:

  • Understand the factors to consider for an online delivery model for OT.
  • Identify selection criteria for students who would benefit from online OT.
  • Cite examples of common IEP goals and student outcomes in online OT cases.

This webinar is part of an on-going series of free webinars sponsored by PresenceLearning. The webinar series, “SPED Ahead: New Realities, New Choices – A Forum for School Leaders,” brings together thought leaders who are re-thinking the way special education services, especially speech-language pathology and other related services are delivered in the 21st century.

Since 2009, PresenceLearning’s online speech therapy services have provided schools with a practical, affordable new option for service delivery: web-based access to a nationwide network of live, highly qualified, fully licensed speech-language pathologists who are available whenever and wherever they are needed. In 2012, PresenceLearning added occupational therapy (OT) to their service offering. By partnering with PresenceLearning, school districts can fill staffing gaps related to acute and chronic SLP and OT shortages, reduce high caseloads for onsite personnel, improve student outcomes and save money. PresenceLearning also offers access to technical specialists, as well as culturally and linguistically diverse speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists.

During the 2012-13 school year, PresenceLearning will conduct more than 120,000 live online therapy sessions in public, charter and virtual school districts of all sizes nationwide.
